About Shaun Yurtkuran
I am a criminal defense attorney based in Jackson, Mississippi, with nearly two decades of courtroom experience and a decade spent on the other side of the aisle as a prosecutor. Before entering private practice, I served for ten years as an Assistant District Attorney in Hinds County, where I tried serious felony cases ranging from violent crimes to complex DUI prosecutions. That experience shaped how I approach every case today. I know how officers build DUI cases, how prosecutors evaluate them, and where the weaknesses usually hide. My current practice focuses heavily on DUI and criminal defense litigation, including license suspensions, administrative hearings, suppression issues, and trial work. I regularly challenge traffic stops, field sobriety testing, breath and blood testing procedures, and the scientific foundations behind the State’s evidence. I believe DUI defense is technical, strategic, and trial driven. Details matter. Paperwork matters. Procedure matters. A case can turn on a single mistake. Clients hire me because I prepare every case as if it is going to trial, not as if it is going to plead. I am a former Marine, a former prosecutor, and a trial lawyer by trade. I bring that mindset into every courtroom.

By Ryan Katz It is no secret that Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is vastly changing the landscape of many different fields. Generative AI can help lawyers brainstorm arguments, organize...
Oral Fluid Testing: Roadside vs. Evidential Analyses
09/02/2025
Written by Ashley M. Hart As cannabis is being decriminalized in many states, there has been increased interest in rapid roadside tests to detect THC and other substances for intoxicated driving charges. A majority of states now have oral fluid testing in some form: roadside (presumptive) or evidential (confirmed in a lab). These states include Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut,...
