About John P. Rutkowski
Defending Your Rights Since 1997: Experience from Both Sides of the Badge When you are facing a DUI or criminal charge, the most valuable asset you can have is perspective. My career hasn't just been spent in a courtroom; it began on the streets, seeing exactly how investigations are built from the ground up. A Career Built on Real-World Experience I have been practicing DUI and criminal law for 27 years, but my foundation in the legal system started even earlier. Before I was a defense attorney, I served as a Deputy Sheriff in Florida, including two dedicated years on the DUI squad. This unique background allows me to analyze your case through a lens most attorneys don't have. I know the procedures, I know where law enforcement might cut corners, and I know exactly how to challenge the evidence against you. My Legal Journey After retiring from law enforcement to pursue my law degree, I gained invaluable experience as an Assistant State Attorney. Seeing how the prosecution prepares cases gave me the final piece of the puzzle. In 1997, I opened my own practice to focus exclusively on defending the rights of the accused. Today, I represent clients across several states and jurisdictions: Florida & Georgia: Northern and Middle Federal District Courts Pennsylvania: Eastern Federal District Court State Courts: Extensive experience in local criminal defense Focused Practice Areas I specialize in high-stakes traffic and criminal matters, ensuring that a single mistake doesn't define your future. Driving Under the Influence (DUI): Strategic defense against alcohol and drug-related charges. Boating Under the Influence (BUI): Navigating the specific nuances of maritime law and enforcement. Criminal Traffic Offenses: Handling serious violations that carry the risk of jail time or permanent records. Administrative Hearings: Representation for Driver License Suspensions and Hardship License applications to keep you on the road. "Experience is the difference between a plea deal and a dismissal." If you are looking for a seasoned advocate who knows the system inside and out, I am ready to put my 30 years of legal expertise and law enforcement background to work for you.

AI in Court Filings: The Ethics Line Between Assistance and Abdication
03/30/2026
By Ryan Katz It is no secret that Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is vastly changing the landscape of many different fields. While the practice of law is certainly not something anybody would want to be taken over by AI in any major way, AI is still a tool which has applications for lawyers. Generative AI can help lawyers brainstorm arguments, organize...
Oral Fluid Testing: Roadside vs. Evidential Analyses
09/02/2025
Written by Ashley M. Hart As cannabis is being decriminalized in many states, there has been increased interest in rapid roadside tests to detect THC and other substances for intoxicated driving charges. A majority of states now have oral fluid testing in some form: roadside (presumptive) or evidential (confirmed in a lab).
