About Thomas S. Hudson

Tom Hudson's father was a legendary trial lawyer in the City of Cleveland, Ohio. As a young man, Tom watched his father try cases. Tom ultimately followed in his dad's footsteps. He attended Case Western Reserve University Law School, where he was a Magee Scholar, and graduated in the top 10% of his class in 1980. His first legal job was as a felony prosecutor in Cleveland. After six years in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, Tom became a criminal defense lawyer, and handled serious felony cases, including homicides, drug cases and public corruption cases. Tom moved to Florida in 1996. In his 42-year career as a trial lawyer, Tom has tried between 300 and 400 jury trials, from traffic violations to death-penalty murder cases. He has been a prosecutor and a defender, and is respected inside and outside the courtroom as a lawyer of skill and integrity. In 2002, Tom decided to specialize in DUI Defense, and began taking the courses that the police took. He became certified to conduct DUI investigations, and in 2004 he was certified as an Instructor in DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Tom passed the Board Certification exam of the NCDD in 2008, and joined the faculty of the College in 2014. Since then, he has taught and lectured at the NCDD Summer Session, held at Harvard Law School, and was a featured speaker at the 2019 Summer Session, discussing problems with the Field Sobriety Tests. Tom authored the book "The Drinker's Guide to Driving: The Secrets of DUI from One of America's Top DUI Lawyers" in 2013. It remains available on Amazon.com. Tom has offices in Sarasota and Key West, Florida.

Work-Life Balance how to achieve Nirvana

02/13/2023

By Matthew Konecky Nothing is more frustrating than to see the state or local bar put on another CLE from a lawyer talking about work-life balance. It's usually put on by a big civil firm lawyer who after 25 years of working 80hrs a week has become an equity partner and intends to coast the rest of his/her career. The gist...

...and then, suddenly, it changed everything!

By Andrew Mishlove The art of storytelling is the primary skill of a trial lawyer. The old paradigm that we argue cases in court is misleading. The adversarial system is a storytelling contest. Facts, science, and logic inform our stories, but the story is the thing. So, what is a story? A story is a narrative that resonates with the listener because...
