BOARD CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL COLLEGE FOR DUI DEFENSE Executive Committee, Dean, Chairman Membership Committee, Chairman Board Certification Committee Steve Oberman has been practicing in the field of criminal defense, with an emphasis on DUI defense, since 1980. He is the author of DUI: The Crime & Consequences in Tennessee, a text widely relied upon by judges, prosecutors and defense counsel throughout Tennessee. He is a frequent contributor to The Champion, the official publication of The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Steve has been an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee Law School since 1993 and has received prestigious awards for his faculty contributions. Steve maintains the highest rating "av" from the renown Martindale-Hubbell rating system. He has been chair or co-chair of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers DUI Committee since 1995. Steve is a popular speaker at seminars throughout the United States on various topics relating to DUI defense including those sponsored by the National College for DUI Defense, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Idaho Criminal Defense Lawyers, and for a Court Clerk Meeting in Cambridge, England. Steve has successfully represented nearly two thousand clients charged with DUI. He is a graduate of the DUI and Traffic Safety Faculty Development Workshop, developed by NHTSA and taught by the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada. He is periodically designated as Special Judge for the DUI division of the Sessions Court in Knox County, Tennessee. Steve was the only criminal defense lawyer selected by the Administrative Office of the Tennessee Supreme Court to serve on a special committee to educate Tennessee judges about DUI laws.
